Arnaud Nordin has returned to Ligue 1 on loan to Rennes after an unsuccessful spell at Mainz. The club said in a statement that the move was completed in the last hour of deadline day, adding that the forward had asked for the switch to seek more playing time and that they wished him well back home.

The 27-year-old made 25 appearances for Mainz in all competitions, with only eight starts.

He spent eight seasons across AS Saint-Étienne and Montpellier before moving to the Bundesliga at the start of last year.

He can reach 200 Ligue 1 appearances with his second game for the Brittany side.

Rennes are sixth in Ligue 1 and were beaten 4-0 away at Monaco at the weekend.

Nordin remains under contract at Mainz until the end of the 2027/28 season.
