Premier League clubs have absolutely smashed all previous records this summer, when it comes to transfer spending.
The 20 Premier League clubs spent over £3.1billion between them these last three months.
A breakdown of that is below, showing Newcastle United and the other 19 PL clubs.
However, arguably the biggest story, is the ever growing gap between the Premier League and the other big European leagues.
The gross transfer spend of the 20 Premier League clubs was higher than ALL of the 76 clubs in Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 combined.
When you get though to the net spend (total spending on players less money received for players sold) of the clubs in each league, it then gets really crazy.
The 20 Premier League clubs had a collective net spend of over £1.2billion on transfer fees this summer.
Serie A clubs had a net spend of around £78m, La Liga clubs collectively £35m net spend.
Whilst Bundesliga clubs actually collectively received more money from summer transfers than they spent, a collective net profit of £156m. Ligue 1 even more startling, the French top tier clubs with a collective net profit of £265m on summer transfers in and out.
If you are a fan of a Premier League club, you may think this is brilliant news.
However, is it really positive for football, to have one European league so dominant financially over everyone else?
It also means major concerns surely, when it comes to what clubs in other leagues might do to try and close the financial chasm.
I am especially thinking about the threats of clubs in leagues such as La Liga and Serie A who may soon play some league matches abroad.
The intention is there from some, for sure. If that did become a reality then beyond doubt, Premier League clubs will follow. Does anybody think that the promise of even more money would be turned down by owners of Premier League clubs, if those in other leagues doing it?
Premier League clubs and their spending this summer, a breakdown:
More than £3.1billion paid out in total in the summer 2025 window, Premier League clubs spending more than ever before.
The previous record was summer 2023, when the 20 Premier League clubs spent £2.4billion.
Sky Sports have also done a league table of spending by the 20 Premier League clubs for this summer 2025 transfer window:
As you can see, Liverpool by far the highest spend this summer, committing to £446.5m according to the Sky Sports figures.
You then have Chelsea and Arsenal next highest, before you get to Newcastle United fourth highest, spending £256.3m.
Seventh highest were Sunderland, a transfer spend of £183.4m this summer.
However, you then have the net spend figures, deducting what Premier League clubs have sold players for, taking those amounts off what they have spent.
When it comes to net spend, Arsenal at the very top having spent £257m more than they have sold players for.
Liverpool, Man U and Spurs are next highest, before you get to the fifth biggest net spenders who are…Sunderland, a net spend of £141.4m.
