Málaga are exploring a move for Celta de Vigo centre-back Carlos Domínguez as injuries mount, according to Cazurreando.

Domínguez came through A Madroa and debuted for the first team in 2020/21. He has been around the side for the past three seasons, but last term proved difficult. He made his Europa League bow yet played only eight La Liga matches.

Celta are looking for a loan to secure him more minutes, a scenario that could make a switch to Málaga possible.

Málaga’s back line is stretched. Moussa Diarra is set to miss a large part of the season, Diego Murillo still needs several weeks, Álex Pastor is readapting after nearly a year out and Einar Galilea has only just rejoined the group after losing much of pre-season.

After José Salinas arrived, Málaga now hold 26 registrations, one above the limit. One slot must be freed to register new signings, and a second departure would be needed if Domínguez comes in.

Sporting director Loren Juarros said they are proceeding calmly with ongoing work and analysis as developments occur. Defence had not been a priority until recently, and the club are also working on an attacking midfield addition. The final weeks of the window will be decisive as Málaga return to the top flight on 19 August against Atlético de Madrid, eight years after their last top-flight game, and the squad may still not be fully settled.
