Malago ‘eyes’ Immobile for FIGC leadership alongside Ranieri and Zola | OneFootball

Corriere della Sera reports that FIGC president Giovanni Malago has approached Ciro Immobile about joining the federation’s leadership, only weeks after the striker announced his retirement from playing.

The idea is said to have come from Malago and involved a telephone conversation between the pair, though neither has confirmed or denied any contact.

The proposed role would place Immobile in a senior leadership group that already includes Claudio Ranieri, Gianfranco Zola, Lele Oriali and Antonio Bianchedi.

Immobile made his name at Lazio, becoming one of the club’s most prolific scorers. He also played for Torino, Genoa, Juventus, Bologna and Pescara before moving abroad to Paris FC. He was also part of Italy’s European Championship triumph in 2021.

The development comes during a turbulent spell for Malago after the FIGC withdrew its support for Gianni Infantino’s FIFA presidency. Serie A League president Ezio Simonelli publicly distanced himself from that decision on Wednesday.

Ranieri was appointed recently as technical director, taking over the post vacated by Paolo Maldini after a brief spell.
