Mallorca have appointed Martin Demichelis as head coach until the end of the season, with an optional extra year. According to L'Équipe, the announcement comes two days after Jagoba Arrasate, who took charge in 2024, was dismissed.
The team are 16th in La Liga and in the first relegation place after 25 matches.
Demichelis, 45, returns to work nearly a year after a nine-month stint at Monterrey in Mexico, where he oversaw 43 games, 20 wins, 11 draws and 12 defeats.
He previously led River Plate from January 2023 to July 2024. This will be his first coaching role in Europe.
As a player, the former international won 51 caps and scored two goals. He featured 94 times for Malaga between 2011 and 2013.
He also had a brief spell at Espanyol, playing two La Liga matches, and a shorter stay at Atletico Madrid without making an appearance.
