RB Leipzig suffered a 3-1 defeat to the recently crowned African champions Mamelodi Sundowns in their South Africa tour. Without the players who will represent their respective national teams in the World Cup, the Bundesliga club traveled for their first visit to the continent of Africa.

Bundesliga’s newcomer of the season Yan Diomande was among the absentees as he’ll feature in the global stage with the Ivory Coast, who will face David Raum’s Germany in the group stage. Austrian trio Xaver Schlager, Nicolas Seiwald and Christoph Baumgartner as well as Norway’s winger Antonio Nusa will also appear in this summer's tournament.

In Leipzig's sole post-season fixture, French U17 international Samba Konaté put them ahead with a fine strike from the edge of the box. Boosted by the electric atmosphere at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Sundowns scored their goals in the final 15 minutes. Ole Werner returned the club to Champions League football, but reports emerged this week that he might not be at the helm at the start of next season.
