Man City appeal deadline explained as Roy Keane calls title wins 'cheating'

Roy Keane has said he would put his Manchester City medals "in the bin" if he were a City player, after the club were found guilty of breaching more than 100 Premier League financial regulations.

On Tuesday, the Premier Leaguereleased an official statement that confirmed City had been found guilty of 'sham' contracts and agreements that had artificially inflated the club's commercial revenue between 2009 and 2018.

In the statement, Premier League CEO Richard Masters said the club had "systematically broke Premier League rules for nearly a decade."

Keane was asked about the verdict and said the City players had been let down by the club. However, the Irishman did not hold back when asked about the honours City won during that period.

"If I was a player, I'd be 100% sticking those medals in the bin. Of course you would, it's cheating. They won it on the pitch because cheating was going on. They knew it would hurt a lot of people, but they've still done it."

Keane is not the only former player calling for a hard line.Jamie Carragher has said City should be stripped of the titles won during the years covered by the breaches, and that the club's owners should be removed from their positions.

City won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, and three League Cups during the period of the breaches.

When is the Man City appeal deadline?

Manchester City have until Friday, October 2nd to appeal the verdict. The club deny any wrongdoing and said they were "surprised" by the ruling.

In a video to staff, City CEO Ferran Soriano described the outcome as the result of a "Premier League conspiracy theory."

"This has gone on for so long that it's important to remind ourselves that the whole Premier League case against us is based on a single false accusation; that the owner's personal money was somehow and secretly put into the club via some sponsors from Abu Dhabi."
