The name of midfielder Rodri has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital over the last 24 hours. After word was forthcoming that Barcelona had firmly joined the race for the 30-year-old’s signature, Rodri himself made clear his desire to link up with Hansi Flick’s side, rather than fellow suitors Real Madrid.

Deco and the Camp Nou brass therefore moved forward with an opening proposal for the World Cup-winning captain on Friday. As alluded to above, however, the bid in question was returned to sender without so much as a second look.

As revealed by market insider David Ornstein of The Athletic:

‘Barcelona have made Manchester City an offer of around €45 million plus add-ons for Rodri. City regard the level of transfer fee Barca have so far communicated they are prepared to pay as being nowhere near the figure required in order to even begin negotiations over a potential sale.’

Those in a position of power at The Etihad, instead, have laid out demands in the region of €80 million. Talks between the parties will continue over the days ahead…
