Premier League giants Manchester City have made the call not to move ahead with a potential swoop for Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. That’s according to Diario Sport, who have early this week provided an insight into the situation.

The brass on the blue half of Manchester have spent much of the summer to date scouring the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park.

Having bid farewell to all of Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders, the Sky Blues are understood to have circled the name of the aforementioned De Jong in red, amid their search for fresh blood for Enzo Maresca’s squad.

At one point, the City brass gave real consideration to tabling an offer for the Dutchman.

As alluded to above, however, in the end, those behind the scenes at The Etihad made the call not to pull the trigger. Not only that, but the Citizens have no intention of renewing their interest before the summer is out.

As per a report from Sport, De Jong’s recent injury setback was the key factor in this decision. Man City have since spent big on adding both Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi to new boss Maresca’s squad, with a lucrative offer for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández also still on the table.

Frenkie de Jong, however, will not be taking his talents to the Premier League any time soon.
