According to reports, Manchester United are now ‘close’ to signing Leicester City starlet Louis Page, who is also linked with Arsenal.
So far this summer, Man Utd have largely focused on overhauling their midfield, having invested around £150m to sign Carlos Baleba, Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
The Red Devils have also recruited Karl Darlow as a new backup goalkeeper, while they have landed several youngsters.
Man Utd have done little business in recent weeks, though it has been suggested that they could sign a left-back, winger and/striker before the transfer window closes.
However, this is dependent on the right opportunity becoming available, with a low-cost deal or loan seeming most likely if they are to do any business at all.
At the time of writing, it appears unlikely that Michael Carrick’s side will add another first-team player to their squad, but they could yet sign another youngster.
This is because they have stepped up their interest in Arsenal target Page, who has been heavily linked with several Premier League giants this summer.
On Tuesday afternoon, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that the Red Devils are ‘still working on a deal’ to sign Page.
Jacobs said on X: ‘BREAKING: Manchester United are still working on a deal for Leicester City’s Louis Page ahead of tonight’s deadline.
‘Talks ongoing, but a race against time. Arsenal the other club tracking the Foxes youngster.
‘Leicester City also host Plymouth this evening, adding another complication.’
A couple of hours later, Jacobs added that Man Utd are still trying to sign Page before the transfer window closes, though he noted that they are in a ‘race against time’.
Still, The Independent‘s Miguel Delaney has now stated that Man Utd are ‘closing in’ on Page, having made ‘swift progress’ in talks with Leicester City in recent hours. It is said that the deal has moved on ‘faster than expected’.
Regarding the potential terms of the deal, Delaney explained: ‘Manchester United are in talks with Leicester City over a deal for midfielder Louis Page. United have made swift progress, to the point where there has been some consideration of whether Page will be included in Leicester’s matchday squad tonight.
‘There is still a long way to go in negotiations and the fee has is expected to exceed £10m.’
