Manchester City have agreed a £12.5m deal to sign 17-year-old Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, although the move is not yet complete. According to BBC UK, Arsenal had been leading the chase but City have gazumped them.
Brentford were also interested, and Leicester face losing one of their standout prospects after relegation to League One. Monga’s one-year scholarship converts to a professional contract on his 17th birthday on Friday, so a fee is required.
City’s interest has been long-standing and is thought to have accelerated under new manager Enzo Maresca, who worked with Monga during his season in charge at Leicester. Arsenal had appeared close to a deal before City moved ahead.
Monga became Leicester’s youngest starter at 16 years and 34 days last August, featuring in the Carabao Cup first round loss on penalties to Huddersfield. He made his Premier League debut under Ruud van Nistelrooy at Newcastle in April 2025, playing the final 16 minutes of a 3-0 defeat at St James’ Park.
An England youth international, he plays mainly on the left but can operate on either flank and is two-footed. He has 37 senior appearances for Leicester, including seven in the Premier League.
His immediate role at City is unclear, though he could join the pre-season tour to Hong Kong and Seoul with other youngsters.
