Manchester City’s pursuit of Antoine Semenyo could jeopardise Leeds United’s January move for Ruben Vargas. The knock-on effect could draw Bournemouth into direct competition for the Sevilla winger.

The Athletic believes the Bournemouth No.24 has decided to join Manchester City this winter, amid interest from Pep Guardiola, Manchester United and Liverpool. City, who also like Harry Gray, are exploring the deal, and Semenyo, who admires Joe Rodon, is central to the chain.

TEAMtalk reports that Vargas is open to joining Leeds, and adds that Bournemouth admire the Sevilla No.11 and might move for him if Semenyo departs. The same outlet also lists Sunderland among the clubs in the running for the Swiss attacker this winter.

Leeds also retain interest in Harry Wilson, who has hinted at a January exit from Fulham, saying he needs to be “somewhere” he can play regularly and shine before a possible World Cup with Wales. Intermediaries are holding talks over a £9m transfer for Vargas to Elland Road.

Time is of the essence for the 49ers to complete Vargas before any Semenyo switch to Manchester City. With a £65m release clause, the Ghana international could hand Bournemouth major funds, and they would be able to outbid Leeds quite easily given PSR issues. Sunderland, sitting sixth, could offer Vargas the chance to fight for European football.
