Foot Mercato reports that Manchester City have reached an agreement with Marseille to sign Gerónimo Rulli, 34, identified as their preferred understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma after James Trafford joined Leeds United.

City’s opening €2m bid was rejected, with Marseille seeking at least €3.5m as the goalkeeper entered the final year of his deal at the Vélodrome.

Rulli’s agent, Kristian Bereit, travelled to City’s training ground to advance talks, after which the English club returned with an improved offer and a deal between the clubs was struck. The financial terms have not been disclosed.

The Argentina international has approved the move and is attracted by the chance to play in the Premier League. A few details still need agreeing with his representatives before the transfer can be finalised.

Rulli joined Marseille in summer 2024 and has made 73 appearances. His expected departure would further reduce OM’s senior options following the exits of Mason Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
