Manchester City youngster Mayzee Davies has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Cityzens announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.

The 18-year-old defender sustained the injury whilst away on international duty with Wales. Davies started the UEFA Women’s Nations League fixture against Denmark in Odense but she lasted just six minutes before coming off injured.

Davies’ injury has now been fully-assessed by the Manchester City medical team and it has been confirmed that the player has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The teenager will now begin her rehabilitation. She is expected to be sidelined until the latter stages of next season.

The injury is a real blow with the player having found herself on the fringes of the first team this season. Davies is yet to make a senior appearance for Manchester City but she has been in and around the senior squad. The defender will now have to wait a little longer for an opportunity to impress at first team level.

After spending some of her youth with Manchester City, Davies re-joined the club last summer after leaving neighbours Manchester United. The youngster spent some time away from The Joie Stadium gaining senior playing experience with FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Liverpool Feds.
