The Athletic reports that Manchester United have agreed a deal worth up to £70m with Brighton for Carlos Baleba, comprising a £65m fee plus £5m in add-ons. The 22-year-old Cameroon international is expected to travel tonight for a medical on Saturday.

United are pressing on with their summer rebuild under Michael Carrick as they prepare to return to the Champions League. Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and goalkeeper Karl Darlow have already arrived from Chelsea, Aston Villa and Leeds United.

Midfield has been a priority after departures and injuries. Casemiro has left on a free transfer, while Manuel Ugarte is sidelined with a ligament problem suffered at the World Cup.

Baleba himself is recovering fitness following an ankle ligament issue during the summer break. The setback ruled him out of Brighton's goalless draw with Tromso in the first leg of their Conference League qualifier on Thursday.

United's pursuit has been long-running, with scouts tracking the former Lille midfielder for several seasons. They monitored him extensively throughout the 2025-26 campaign after exploring a move last summer.

Baleba joined Brighton from Lille in the summer of 2023 and has made 112 appearances for the Seagulls. He started 23 Premier League matches last season.
