Expectation is growing that Carlos Baleba will join Manchester United as their pursuit heads towards a conclusion.
According to TheArgus.co.uk, he is expected to sign a long-term contract at Old Trafford, and Albion could receive up to £70 million plus a sell-on clause.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler, speaking on Friday, suggested progress had been made. Asked if injury was the only reason Baleba would miss Sunday’s Aston Villa match, he laughed and said that was the case at the moment.
Liverpool remain in the hunt for Yankuba Minteh, reportedly with a second £60 million bid on Friday afternoon. Baleba’s exit was viewed as a matter of when, while Minteh’s was less certain with Liverpool understood to have alternatives.
Albion rarely sanction three such major departures in one window. Jan Paul van Hecke has already joined Spurs for £52 million, while Danny Welbeck is another notable sale this summer in terms of role and importance, though not fee.
United tracked Baleba last summer, when his deal ran to 2028 and Albion had no intention of selling. He has since had an in-and-out season, completing only three full Premier League games, and Hurzeler said success naturally brings interest but he is focused on solutions.
