In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Manchester United have identified Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba as a target. It has been stated that the Red Devils are eyeing the Cameroonian talent as an upgrade for the midfield position next year.
The 21-year-old has made a decent start to this Premier League campaign as he has already put in a few impressive displays at the heart of Brighton’s midfield. Baleba has participated in six matches for the Seagulls this season across various competitions.
The Cameroonian talent has offered solid protection for his teammates at the back after making four tackles, two blocks, four interceptions and four clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball relatively well based on his pass success rate of 76.7% in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Amex Stadium will run out in the summer of 2028. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Man United to fund a move for him on the cheap this January or at the end of this season.

Baleba is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Cameroonian talent is a tidy passer of the ball as well and is currently among the best young midfielders in the Premier League. Thus, it makes sense for the Red Devils to invest on a player of his quality next year.
We can expect Baleba to bring more quality and depth to Man United head coach Ruben Amorim’s midfield. He is good enough to compete for a regular starting spot at the Mancunian club in the coming years.
At 21, Baleba has the potential to be a generational talent. He could even help the Red Devils get back to challenging for European football in the Premier League. Hence, Amorim should focus on going all out to snap him up this January or at the end of this season.
