Manuel Neuer can’t wait for classic against Arsenal

Manuel Neuer has reacted to Bayern Munich being drawn to face Arsenal in the Champions League this season, with the German goalkeeper excited about facing the Gunners.

In the last two decades, Arsenal have often been drawn to face the Germans in the Champions League, and this will be another meeting between the two clubs. The Gunners reached the final of the Champions League last season, where they faced a PSG side that eliminated Bayern, meaning we did not get to see what an Arsenal versus Bayern final would have been like.

Arsenal and Bayern meet again

Both clubs will meet again in the league phase of the competition, giving the teams another opportunity to earn valuable points. Arsenal will be keen to impress during that phase and finish near the top, potentially giving them a more favourable route through the later stages.

They will face opponents that are much stronger now, so it will probably be more difficult for the Gunners to compete than it was last season. Bayern are certainly one of the toughest teams Arsenal will face in the league phase, and the Germans would say the same about their opponents.

The fixture also gives both sides an early opportunity to measure themselves against a major European rival. Arsenal will want to continue their progress in the competition, while Bayern will be determined to make their quality count.

Neuer welcomes Arsenal fixture

Neuer has welcomed the meeting and sees the matchup as one that has developed into a familiar fixture in European football. As quoted by Bavarian Football Works, he also spoke about another important fixture involving Bayern.

“The matchup with Arsenal has already become something of a classic in recent years. We will face Atlético at the stadium where the final will be played, and we all hope that we will get to play there twice this season.”

The Bayern goalkeeper’s comments underline the excitement surrounding the Champions League draw. Arsenal and Bayern have developed a history of meeting in the competition, and another encounter gives both clubs a chance to add another chapter.

For Arsenal, the objective will be to navigate the league phase successfully and put themselves in a strong position for the knockout stages. Bayern will have the same ambition, while Neuer will hope his team can go all the way to the final.
