Corinthians football executive Marcelo Paz says Memphis Depay’s contract renewal is progressing but still unresolved. Depay arrived in São Paulo last Tuesday for medicals and final details, though fresh differences then emerged between his camp and the club. He spoke while attending the CBF Technical Council on new regulations.

"He is not playing yet because his contract has not been renewed. It is quite advanced, but it is a complex contract that involves many issues," Paz said in an interview published by Sportscenter.

"There is a debt, there are commercial issues, and there is the contract itself. Corinthians are taking every care to make a legally safe agreement."

His previous deal expired on 31 July and is expected to be extended until mid 2028. He has 79 appearances, 20 goals and 15 assists for Corinthians, winning Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Supercopa Rei.

"The football department wants this resolved quickly. We need Memphis on the pitch, registered, but we understand there is a legal, technical process and we respect that."

He can be registered despite Corinthians being under a transfer ban, as the agreement does not involve a move between clubs.
