Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz says Memphis Depay’s contract renewal is advanced but complex, leaving the forward still waiting to return. The Dutchman arrived in São Paulo last Tuesday for final checks and medicals, but new disagreements have emerged with his camp.

"He is not playing yet because his contract has not been renewed. It is quite advanced, but it is a complex contract that involves many issues," he told Sportscenter.

"There is a debt, there are commercial issues, there is the contract itself. Corinthians is taking every care to make a safe, legally perfect deal, so that his possible stay, which I believe in and hope for, can be very secure for the club. Memphis’s previous deal expired on 31 July and is expected to be extended to mid-2028. He has 79 appearances, 20 goals and 15 assists for the club, winning the Campeonato Paulista, Copa do Brasil and Supercopa Rei.

"The football department wants this resolved quickly. We need Memphis on the pitch, registered, but we respect the legal and technical process. We hope he can be available as soon as possible."

Coach Fernando Diniz said he hopes to use the forward in Thursday’s Libertadores last-16 first leg against Rosario Central, with the squad due to travel to Argentina on Tuesday. The player has been training with former Corinthians fitness coach Diego Pereira and would still need to be listed on the BID to play.
