Marco Silva’s squad is not yet settled, and Enzo Barrenechea could leave Benfica on loan with an obligation to buy.
Record reports that the SAD, led by Rui Costa, are open to a loan but want the deal to include a compulsory purchase clause.
Such a move would create room in the squad and secure a future fee for the 25-year-old, signed permanently from Aston Villa after objectives in the initial agreement were met.
Barrenechea had initially been earmarked for a summer departure, but opportunities under Marco Silva and his responses on the pitch have tempered those plans. His future at the club remains undecided.
João Palhinha is the priority target for the position, yet Bayern Munich’s financial demands have complicated negotiations. With limited alternatives, Marco Silva has continued to use the Argentine.
This season for Benfica, Barrenechea, valued at 12 million euros, has played five matches, four in Europa League qualifying and one in Liga Portugal Betclic. Across 333 minutes he has registered one assist.
