Marco Silva reveals Jean-Philippe Gbamin may not return until January | OneFootball

After just a game and a half with Everton, it appeared Jean-Philippe Gbamin was a fantastic like-for-like replacement for Idrissa Gueye, who has went on to do incredible things at PSG.

With Gbamin on the pitch, Everton did not allow a goal as they started the season with four points from their first two Premier League matches of the season.

However, Gbamin suffered a serious quad injury in August, and the Toffees went on to lose five of their following six games, only earning their first clean sheet since his unfortunate blow last weekend against West Ham.

Though he was expected to return in November, Gbamin opted for surgery on his right quadriceps tendon. Now, Silva has hinted that Gbamin could now be set for an extended absence.

“When he started to do something a little bit different, because he had been in the gym,” he said.

“It was the first time he was on the pitch he, straight away, he felt something, a sensation.

“Like you know, the specialist is not our doctor, we found a specialist to send the player to.

“They took a decision, they were in doubts in the beginning to do surgery or not, but they took the decision together and unfortunately for us, now after one month, the specialist has seen the player and decided to go in this way.

“It is not the best thing but it is what it is now. It is always unfortunate when it happens to a player but worse when it is a young player like J-P. But now we have to support him.

“Unfortunately for the team, we don’t have him for the next three [months].. let’s see, if not more.”
