Despite Benfica’s emphatic win at Moreirense, Yolanda Coluna criticised the state of the pitch after the final whistle.

"It was a good game. Regrettably, the pitch was in awful condition. In the first half, Benfica were very wasteful, but in the second they played with real fight and it was lovely to see the commitment of all the players. I believe the final result was entirely fair," said Mário Coluna’s daughter to Record.

The surface became an extra obstacle for Marco Silva’s side, with Moreirense sitting deep and disrupting Benfica’s passing. The visitors only properly broke the contest open after the interval.

Concerns over pitches are becoming a theme for Benfica. This was the second consecutive fixture in which the conditions drew complaints from the club, after the trip to Marítimo was also affected by a poor surface.

At that time, Marco Silva made his displeasure clear, arguing the surface did not allow football to be played, that responsibility lay with the league or the federation rather than Marítimo, and that such pitches so early in the season do the Portuguese league no favours.
