Three Eagles played the full 90 minutes on Friday, with the players emerging victorious for Egypt and Belgium – and a Frankfurt forward on the scoresheet.

In the first round of group games in qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Egypt beat Cabo Verde 3-0 in Cairo. With Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush occupying the wide attacking positions for the full 90 minutes, the Pharaohs had more of the game and it was Marmoush who made it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time.

Frankfurt defenders Arthur Theate and Aurèle Amenda also went the distance for their respective teams. Theate was part of a Belgian team that triumphed 3-1 against Israel at the start of the UEFA Nations League. While Eintracht’s number three started in a back four, Amenda formed the centre of a three-man defence for Switzerland U21s, who lost 2-1 to Albania in qualifying for next year’s European Under-21 Championship despite considerable dominance.

Elsewhere, France U21s drew 1-1 against Slovenia. Hugo Ekitiké, who was called up at short notice, was not yet included in the squad. Compatriot Jean-Mattéo Bahoya was also a spectator in the U20 team’s 5-3 friendly win against Switzerland, as was Can Uzun in Turkey’s 0-0 draw against Wales.
