Maroan Sannadi, the Morocco international, has joined the Williams brothers’ fufu tradition at Athletic, taking his turn on Wednesday. According to El Correo, the Vitoria-born striker took part in the club ritual.

Adama Boiro and Álvaro Djaló have already had the experience.

In a clip with Iñaki, Maroan films the meal and chants about fufu power, while their mother, María Arthuer, is heard encouraging from the sofa.

The so-called fufu power has become an Athletic staple. Before the cup final, which the Bilbao side won, the brothers ate the dish in a video posted by Iñaki, presenting it as the energy they needed to score in such an important match. Nico has said it is his favourite meal and that it helps him for games.

Fufu, typical of Ghana and now widespread across Africa, is a soft white starch paste made by boiling and mixing cassava or ripe plantain. The light dough is served as an accompaniment and is eaten with the hands.
