In his pre-match press conference ahead of the final game of the Ligue 1 season, Jean-Louis Gasset has announced his retirement from football management at the end of the season. The Marseille interim head coach’s next match against Le Havre will be his last on the touchline.
Gasset was appointed as Marseille’s interim boss following the dismissal of Gennaro Gattuso from the dugout at the Stade Vélodrome. Laurent Blanc’s former assistant arrived in the South of France having recently left the post of Côte d’Ivoire manager.
Ahead of OM’s last game of the season and his managerial career, Gasset said, “Tomorrow is the last match of my career. That I stay in football, that my experience, my ideas and my networks are used is a possibility. I don’t know how to garden, I won’t have anything to do. But as a coach, it’s over. My decision is final.”
Gasset has enjoyed an illustrious career in coaching – both as an assistant and as a head coach. He coached 10 clubs and national teams throughout his career including France, Marseille, Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain.
