Olympique de Marseille are reportedly interested in signing Krépin Diarra (27), according to Foot Mercato.

A free agent since leaving AS Monaco at the end of June, the Senegalese international – who has 64 caps – is seen by the Marseille management, who are forced to operate on a tight budget, as a suitable signing, particularly given his status as a free agent. His versatility and experience in Ligue 1, as well as in European competition, are also reportedly viewed favourably by Marseille’s decision-makers.

However, signing him is unlikely to be a straightforward task, as he is in high demand. In England, Ipswich Town – promoted to the Premier League this season – and Everton could make a move to try to persuade Diarra to make the move across the Channel. Schalke 04, meanwhile, back in the Bundesliga, would also see the Senegalese player as a quality addition to help them return to the top flight.

Having made 22 appearances across all competitions last season, the former Club Brugge player is fresh from a World Cup campaign in which he played the full 90 minutes in all four of Senegal’s matches.
