Sunderland’s push for Igor Paixao has left the forward closer than ever to leaving Marseille. The chase has prompted a stand-off inside the club.
According to L'Équipe, the sporting department want to keep him at all costs, while the hierarchy are prepared to sell to Sunderland.
The English club have made the 26-year-old Brazilian their priority ahead of Sporting’s Mozambique international Geny Catamo.
Talk of an agreement between the player and the Black Cats has surfaced, but Marseille on Wednesday night played down an imminent outcome, and even the existence of any deal. Paixao is said to want to stay in Marseille.
With the window nearing its close, uncertainty clouds who will lead the line away to Monaco on Sunday at 20:45. Paixao featured in the 1-2 friendly defeat to Atlético de Madrid on 14 August.
