Arsenal’s injury situation isn’t too bad at the moment, with only three known issues going into Saturday’s match against Everton.

Mikel Merino is out, and there’s certainly no chance of him returning anytime soon. The player posted on his Instagram page on Friday and revealed he’s been using crutches and a mobility scooter, so he’s a way off competitive football.

The other two potential absences are less certain, with both Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard believed to be closing in on their comebacks. Though Mikel Arteta wouldn’t confirm anything one way or another in his pre-Everton press conference.

“We’ll see (if Trossard and Odegaard could be available against Everton,” Arteta said. “We will have to wait and see and speak to the doctors on whether they are involved or not.”

The good news is that it sounds like there’s a least a chance the pair could return to the squad, and there’s no doubt Odegaard is very keen for that to happen.

Speaking in his pre-match programme notes, Odegaard said: “I’m desperate to get back to playing as soon as I can. It’s been difficult for me with the knee injury lately, but I’m working as hard as I can to get back to full fitness now.

“The main thing is to be 100% again, and make sure I can properly help the team.”

With Arteta confirming there are no new injury concerns from Arsenal’s midweek game against Bayer Leverkusen, it’s possible the team will only have one or two enforced absences for the Everton match.

That’s certainly good news, as it’s vital the Gunners keep picking up three points as we move into the final eight games of the Premier League season.
