The Blues lost to Newcastle last weekend, and were then comfortably beaten by PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Chelsea head into the game in sixth, five points ahead of the Toffees who sit eighth, and are targeting European football next season.

Paul Merson gives Everton vs Chelsea prediction

Chelsea sit a point behind Liverpool in fifth and three behind Aston Villa in fourth, and Liam Rosenior’s men can’t afford many more slip ups over the final eight games.

The Blues have won just two of their last six league games, and Rosenior confirmed before the game Trevoh Chalobah is set to be out for six weeks.

It’s a must win game for the Blues, and they desperately need to find a response and arrest their current slump in form.

Everton haven’t got the best home record this season, but whether Chelsea can take advantage remains to be seen, and Merson has given his prediction.

“I would say Liam Rosenior is under a bit of pressure,” he told Sportskeeda.

“I can’t see Chelsea being alright without Champions League football next season. Now they have a massive fight on their hands to secure that qualification.

“Everton will give Chelsea a tough test. I remember them being good against Arsenal at the Emirates.

“If Chelsea can get three points here, it will be an unbelievable result, but I don’t expect that to happen.

“Prediction: Everton 1-1 Chelsea.”

Chelsea still backing Liam Rosenior

The recent run of results has seen questions asked of Rosenior, and there have been reports the Blues are questioning whether he’s the right man.

However, it’s been reported Chelsea still back Rosenior and believe in him, but ultimately it’s a results based business and he needs to start picking them up.

The Blues don’t want to head into the international break on the back of a poor result, so the pressure is on and it’s time for the players to step up.
