After an opening matchweek win over Napoli at the Etihad Stadium, City endured a frustrating draw at AS Monaco in the South of France, before cruising beyond Villarreal in Eastern Spain on matchday three.

Now, City take on back-to-back home matches against German opposition, starting with Niko Kovac’s Borussia Dortmund side this week, before turning attentions towards Bayer Leverkusen on matchday five.

The Premier League outfit will no doubt be coming into their latest European challenge full of confidence having bounced back from defeat away to Aston Villa was back-to-back victories against Swansea in the Carabao Cup fourth round and Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, UEFA have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!

Match Referee

As confirmed by UEFA decision makers this week, the highly-experienced Polish referee Szymon Marciniak has been appointed into the role of match referee at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City against Borussia Dortmund.

Wednesday night’s European encounter in East Manchester will be the 44-year-old’s 15th contest across all competitions this season, having issued 47 yellow cards, one straight red card, and awarded five penalties in his 14 fixtures to date.

Four of those outings have come in UEFA Champions League action including the qualification process for the tournament, in which 11 yellow cards were issued and no dismissals sanctioned nor penalty kicks awarded.

In matches involving City, Pep Guardiola’s side have won four and lost one of the five contests overseen by Szymon Marciniak, with that solitary defeat coming in the last meeting as Paris Saint-Germain defeated the Premier League side 4-2 in last season’s league phase.

For the large part, City fans will have fond memories of contests policed by Marciniak, having recorded wins in the FIFA Club World Cup Final of 2023, a 4-0 home win in the Champions League’s semi-final second-leg against Real Madrid and, of course, the 1-0 win over Inter in Istanbul’s Final that same season.

Assistant Referees

Accompanying referee Szymon Marciniak at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night will be fellow Polish referees Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik, appointed into the roles of assistant referees at the Etihad Stadium.

Video Assistant Referees

Overseeing Manchester City’s meeting with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund from VAR positions will be Poland’s Tomasz Kwiatkowski as Video Assistant Referee, and fellow countryman Piotr Lasyk as Assistant Video Assistant Referee.

Fourth Official

Completing the all-Polish match officials team for Manchester City against Borussia Dortmund will be fourth official Paweł Raczkowski, managing events concerning Pep Guardiola and Niko Kovac in the two dugouts.
