Tottenham Hotspur forward Mathys Tel would ideally like to remain at the club despite speculation surrounding his future, according to Sky Sports.

The Spurs star endured a turbulent campaign in north London, one that could break many young players.

However, he believes he can continue his development under new Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi, having played a key role in the successful battle against relegation.

Tel wants stability after a chaotic 18-month spell at the club, during which he has worked under four different head coaches.

At the same time, Tottenham recorded back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old faced repeated uncertainty over his role throughout the season.

He was initially left out of Tottenham’s Champions League squad under Thomas Frank before being recalled in December to cover for Dominic Solanke’s injury absence.

Once Solanke returned, Tel was again pushed out of the picture, fuelling growing interest from clubs across Europe during the January window.

However, De Zerbi’s arrival proved to be a turning point for the versatile forward.

Tel earned the Italian’s trust with influential performances, including one against Wolverhampton Wanderers that gave Spurs their first league victory of 2026.

That victory shifted momentum in the survival fight for Tottenham.

From there, Tel started each of the final four league games on the left flank, contributing a goal and an assist as Spurs secured their top-flight status.

Tel’s season also included off-field challenges, having suffered racial abuse on social media after missing a penalty in Tottenham’s Super Cup shoot-out defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite interest elsewhere, Tel hopes his long-term future remains in north London.

If De Zerbi believes he can convert him to a functional left-winger, then by all means, Spurs must keep him.

The Italian tactician still needs another left-winger, but Tel is a fantastic weapon to call upon.
