Lyon sporting director Matthieu Louis-Jean says Malick Fofana could yet stay, despite Roma’s interest and pressure to sell.

“It’s possible he’ll stay; there are several clubs showing interest in Malick, but we have a plan and we’re going to stick to it – we know what we have to do,” he told Canal+ on the sidelines of the Europa League draw.

Lyon are aiming to raise around 50 million euros after missing out on the Champions League. Fofana is considered the club’s most valuable asset, which leaves his future uncertain.

The 21-year-old joined two and a half years ago and established himself on the left wing. He missed much of 2025-26 after a serious ankle injury in October, but has since found form to start 2026-27 strongly.

“We’re not going to change course. We have four days to adjust our situation; we need to sell. It’s not a question of price; it’s a question of options for us, and we have to do what’s best for us.”

Roma and other suitors have until the first of September to persuade Lyon to sanction a move.
