Matty Longstaff will get a reserve team run out this coming Monday as he looks to ease his way back after injury.
Longstaff has been suffering with a long-term thigh strain and had hoped to be back for Newcastle’s senior clash with Manchester United on Saturday.
However that seems to have come a little bit too late for the midfielder, who will get his first minutes next week when the Under-23s take on Fulham at St James’ Park instead.
Longstaff scored the winner last season when Newcastle beat Manchester United 1-0 at home, but has since been in and out of the starting XI through various knocks.
