Maurits Kjærgaard, 23, has joined Lille to replace Ayyoub Bouaddi. The Danish midfielder arrives amid praise from former Salzburg colleagues.

According to L'Équipe, team-mates who played alongside him at Red Bull Salzburg have been effusive about his quality.

He featured for Red Bull Salzburg against Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles in November in the Europa League.

Lille supporters may barely recall him from 23 November 2021, when he played five minutes in the Champions League at Pierre-Mauroy against Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side. The 1.92m midfielder, with his mid-length blond hair, made only a brief impression.

That cameo changed little, as it was effectively his introduction to the competition after just one minute previously.
