Mauro Furtado has left Benfica after 13 years to join Girona, describing the Spanish side as one that strongly backs young players. The Portugal Under-17 world champion is 18 and a centre-back.

He declined a new contract with Benfica following disagreements and used his unveiling to highlight Girona’s pathway for youngsters. According to Glorioso 1904, those remarks were seen as a swipe at Benfica.
