Max O’Leary has been rewarded for his West Brom form with a Republic of Ireland call-up for an end-of-season camp and friendly.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Icelandic manager Heimir Hallgrímsson has named O’Leary and Albion team-mate Jayson Molumby in a 21-man group, with Ireland to face Grenada in Murcia on May 16.

O’Leary, 29, has one senior cap, earned in a friendly against Luxembourg last June after helping former club Bristol City reach the Championship play-offs. This is his first call since he played a key part in helping Albion avoid relegation.

He arrived at The Hawthorns at the end of January on a short-term deal and is out of contract when it expires. In a little over three months he made 17 appearances, 16 in the Championship, and kept eight clean sheets. James Morrison’s side produced a run of six shutouts in seven as survival was secured.

Molumby, who has 34 caps, missed Albion’s final-day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday with a minor hamstring strain but could add to his tally. Further friendlies follow against Qatar on May 28 and Canada on June 6. The nation are aiming to move on from World Cup qualification heartache after a penalty shootout loss to Czechia, a game Molumby played.

Albion are weighing up their goalkeeping plans, with the futures of O’Leary and academy graduate Josh Griffiths uncertain. Griffiths, 24, lost his place to O’Leary. Third-choice Joe Wildsmith is on loan at Middlesbrough and set to depart.
