Former West Brom boss Ryan Mason, dismissed after 27 games, has been linked with Watford’s vacant Championship job.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, bookmakers have him among the early favourites, alongside Garcia Pimienta, ex-Southampton chief Russell Martin, former Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes and the departed Burnley manager Scott Parker.

Mason took charge at Albion last summer in his first managerial role after a lengthy spell on Tottenham’s coaching staff, and he began superbly. He had previously been linked with a move abroad.

Results then dipped, West Brom slid down the table and a defeat to Leicester City proved the final straw, with Mason sacked in January. A dire away record weighed heavily on that decision.

His successor, Eric Ramsay, fared no better and departed without a win from nine matches. Watford parted with Ed Still at the end of the season after only a handful of games, the brother of Will who briefly managed Southampton this season, following a poor late run.
