Mayke leaves Santos after one year amid injuries and pay dispute | OneFootball

Right-back Mayke has terminated his Santos contract after a year. According to Globo.com, the 33-year-old has filed a lawsuit alleging two months of unpaid wages, three of FGTS, five of image rights and seven of signing-on fees.

He was unveiled on 30 July last year with hopes he would fix the right flank, but injuries limited him to 20 appearances.

His lawyer, João Henrique Chiminazzo, said Mayke had waived sums to settle out of court, but after days of talks the club offered about 25% less and changed key terms. He trained separately while negotiating, was not in Cuca’s plans, and his deal had run to December 2027.

He debuted against Juventude on four August in the Brasileiro, came on at half-time, impressed and became a starter under Cleber Xavier.

Aside from the clássico with São Paulo, he struggled, notably in the heavy defeat to Vasco da Gama at Morumbis. A right-knee inflammation followed and he lost his place to Igor Vinícius under Juan Pablo Vojvoda, featuring in four of the final 12 matches, starting twice.

This season he played only eight times, seven as a starter. Knee pain led to PRP treatment and corticosteroid use, sidelining him because the substance is considered doping. Under Cuca, against Coritiba he was booed and withdrawn on 40 minutes after errors in all three goals. After the World Cup break he was told he was not in the plans and free to leave. The CBF BID recorded his termination last Thursday.
