‘Medical Booked’ – Rangers React, Deal Agreed For Former Hearts Star | OneFootball

Rangers have moved to bring in former Hearts left-back James Penrice on a loan deal, with a medical booked in for Friday.

There is set to be a real sense of urgency at Ibrox in the transfer market over the coming weeks, pushed ahead by Rangers’ poor start to the new season under Derek McInnes.

Dumped out of the Europa League by Jagiellonia on Thursday night, Rangers are now facing a Conference League playoff round tie.

They have been expected to add another left-back, especially after an injury to Tuur Rommens, and have now moved for Penrice.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Rangers have agreed a loan deal with AEK Athens for the former Hearts defender.

The agreement will contain an option for Rangers to sign Penrice permanently if he impresses, though the value of the option is unclear.

Now Rangers have a ‘medical booked on Friday’ for the ex-Hearts man as they look to complete the deal.

Penrice moved to join Greek side AEK Athens last summer, with the Athens-based side forking out £2m.

He has struggled to make much impression in Greece though and AEK Athens have been looking to move him on this summer.

The 27-year-old was looked at by Celtic earlier this summer, but the Bhoys did not go beyond an enquiry for him, despite their need for another left-back.

Rangers are tipped to do a raft of deals over the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window and have been urged by Andy Halliday to bring back James Tavernier.

Penrice will come in, barring any issues with his medical, to give Derek McInnes another defensive option and he knows his way around Scottish football.

The left-back kicked off his career at Partick Thistle, having two loan spells away before signing for Livingston.

Hearts took Penrice to Tynecastle in the summer of 2024 and he quickly impressed, catching AEK Athens’ attention.
