Medical scheduled as ex-Fulham player agrees Preston North End deadline day deal | OneFootball

Former Fulham midfielder Josh Onomah is on his way to Lancashire for a medical with Preston North End after agreeing to sign for the Lilywhites, according to Football Insider.

It was reported on Monday by Sky Sports that the Cottagers were in talks with the 25-year-old to terminate his contract in West London in order for him to go out and seek regular minutes, with his time at Fulham ending anyway this coming summer.

They finally reached an agreement this afternoon to go their separate ways, and that came hours after it emerged that North End were leading the race for the ex-Tottenham Hotspur man’s signature.

Despite up to six clubs being in the race for Onomah, it is PNE who have convinced Onomah to agree a deal, and he will now undergo the relevant physical checks to become Ryan Lowe’s third signing of the transfer window.

Onomah played 76 times in all competitions for Fulham since arriving from Spurs in the summer of 2019 and featured 20 times in their Championship-winning campaign in 2021-22 – he was however restricted to just two brief Premier League outings this season before his release from Craven Cottage.

The Verdict

PNE fans have been calling for the club to take action in a number of positions, with a lack of creativity in midfield being a big issue.

Onomah will certainly help to try and solve that – whilst he’s not scored many goals in his career he can make things happen in the final third with his technical ability.

He could be the long-term replacement for Daniel Johnson, who has had a good run with PNE in his eight years at Deepdale but he hasn’t been firing this season and his contract expires in June.

With experience of promotion under his belt with Fulham, Onomah certainly brings some desirable qualities to Ryan Lowe’s squad and it could be a bit of shrewd business from the Lilywhites.
