Spain edged Uruguay 1-0 to clinch top spot and eliminate Bielsa's side, but the win brought injuries that could hit Spain's attack before the round of 32.

In a bruising contest shaped by lenient officiating, Luis de la Fuente withdrew Lamine Yamal as a precaution. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that his replacement, the Crystal Palace winger Yeremy Pino, making his second appearance of the tournament, was badly hurt.

A heavy challenge to Pino's left shoulder initially raised fears of a broken collarbone. With no substitutions left he played on despite the injury, something the Spain coach described as heroic.

Today's medical tests confirmed an acromioclavicular sprain, not a fracture, with an absence that can range from two to 12 weeks depending on severity and progress. His involvement in Spain's upcoming World Cup fixtures is uncertain, and pending official confirmation his tournament appears over.

Nico Williams seemed to fare better after a heavy tackle from behind by De la Cruz as he broke away towards goal. He left the pitch with discomfort, and further tests will determine whether he can feature in the first knockout match.
