Megan Rapinoe played her final game for OL Reign but was helped off after a third-minute injury in a 2-1 NWSL Championship defeat to Gotham.
The 38-year-old played over 120 times for OL Reign, netting in excess of 50 goals but missed out on her last chance to lift the NWSL Championship with this defeat in the final.
She earlier won the NWSL Shield three times with OL Reign (formerly Seattle Reign FC) and The Women’s Cup last season.
During a spell with Lyon in 2012-13, she helped them win a French league and cup double, as well as reaching the Champions League final.

Rapinoe ended her international career recently, having won over 200 caps and scored more than 60 times.
The highlights of her 17 years in the US senior side were winning the World Cup in 2015 and 2019, plus Olympic gold in 2012 and a bronze medal in 2021.
Her individual honours feature a prolific 2019, in which she won The Best FIFA Women’s Player award, FIFA Women’s World Cup Golden Ball and Golden Boot, World Cup Final Player of the Match and Ballon d’Or, as well as being included in the FIFPro World XI, which she repeated the following year.
