Memphis Depay has been withdrawn from the Netherlands squad after picking up an injury during Corinthians’ draw with Flamengo.
The Dutch federation announced that he will not report to its Zeist training base and is unavailable for home friendlies against Norway on 27 March in Amsterdam and Ecuador on 31 March in Eindhoven. National coach Ronald Koeman will not call a replacement, leaving the squad at 25.
Tests on Monday showed a strain in the anterior muscle of his right thigh sustained in that game.
The forward started at Neo Química Arena but lasted only 20 minutes after feeling discomfort moments before Yuri Alberto’s goal, having earlier fed Matheus Bidu to cross for the striker. He was replaced by Rodrigo Garro.
He had already been a concern around the turn of the year, missing early January due to muscle rebalancing linked to knee pain. He skipped the trip to face Chapecoense last Thursday for load management and had been playing with knee difficulties.
Depay has 12 appearances in 2026, 10 starts, with one goal and one assist, totalling 776 minutes, the 13th highest in the squad.
Corinthians resume on one April, away to Fluminense at the Maracanã in the ninth round of the Brasileiro. Before the World Cup pause, they still have Copa do Brasil, the entire Libertadores group stage and further league games.
