Corinthians were eliminated from the Campeonato Paulista after a 1-0 defeat to Novorizontino. Globo.com reports that Dorival Júnior’s plan to start Memphis as a lone striker faltered, with a five-man midfield creating little.
Gabriel Paulista was assured at the back. André orchestrated most threats down the left and went close with a strike on 29 minutes. Matheuzinho struggled in duels and was booked for a rash tackle.
Vitinho entered at 15 minutes of the second half to support Memphis, who had his first attempt only after the change. The midfield balance still failed to supply quality.
Mayk exploited space behind Matheuzinho to score for Novorizontino, with André caught out and later shown a yellow card.
Garro spurned a fine opening in the second half, failing to connect cleanly. Breno Bidon then squandered a one-on-one after a smart ball from Matheus Bidu, his touch letting him down.
Dorival alternated Raniele and Allan as an auxiliary third centre-back, helping defensively more than in build-up. Late introductions for Pedro Raul, Dieguinho and others could not turn it around.
