Mestalla turns 103 today, and the penultimate Liga round will be played there this weekend. Valencia’s old Avenida de Suecia home will enter its final season next year.
According to AS, Mestalla remains one of the most striking venues for visiting supporters across the world.
Fans often describe it as vertigo-inducing and very steep, a unique experience. La Grada de La Mar is the highest section, its rake reaching 44 degrees, bringing spectators closer to the pitch.
The game feels different from these stands. The stadium’s resonance is immense and the crowd sits close to the turf, a combination rare in Spain and across Europe. Expansion over the decades has gone upwards due to the limited footprint on Avenida de Suecia.
Mestalla has staged generations of Valencia memories, joy, pain and celebration. On the streets there is a sadness that, once Valencia move to the Nou Mestalla, a part of many lives will go with it. The old ground is offering its final services before retirement.
