According to Superdeporte, Thomas Meunier is entering a decisive week over his future, with Valencia CF preparing a medical for the 34-year-old and aiming to finalise terms quickly to minimise late rival bids. The club remains optimistic and views his arrival as a matter of time, with steps anticipated before he begins his holidays.
If sealed, Meunier would become Valencia’s fifth addition for 26/27 after Guido Rodríguez, Aliou Dieng, Justin de Haas and Ryunosuke Sato, alongside the renewal of Stole Dimitrievski. With Guido secured, right-back is the priority given the exits of Thierry Rendall and Renzo Saravia and Dimitri Foulquier’s long-term injury.
Meunier is set to arrive as a free agent after his Lille contract expired on 30 June, provided nothing changes.
His World Cup was stop-start. He started the first two group games, playing 90 minutes against Egypt and 58 against Iran, then was on the bench for the final group match with New Zealand and remained a substitute thereafter.
His standout moment came in the last 32 against Senegal, when his assist for Romelu Lukaku sparked the comeback. He had no minutes in the last-16 win over the USA or the quarter-final defeat by Spain, when Castagne provided an assist from right-back.
After the Spain loss, Meunier broke his silence with a social media message, calling it a good tournament, highlighting positives despite defeat and looking to a future full of emotion.
