Micah Richards claims Chelsea have a “top” player who’s “changed his game completely” | OneFootball

Former Manchester City star Micah Richards has showered praise on Enzo Fernandez and believes the midfielder has changed his game.

Fernandez has been a first team regular since completing his then British record transfer from Benfica in January 2023.

The World Cup winner has certainly improved since he first arrived, although he’s been through a number of highs and lows during his time at Stamford Bridge.

There’s plenty of competition for places in midfield at Chelsea, and Fernandez is competing with the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

Fernandez had arguably his best season last time out, and he registered 26 goal contributions in all competitions as the Blues won both the Conference League and Club World Cup.

The Argentina international has made huge improvements in the attacking side of his game, which has left Richards impressed.

“I love [Moises] Caicedo, I love Enzo,” he told The Rest Is Football.

“Enzo has changed his game completely. He was a holder, but now he gets forward at every opportunity, he takes penalties.”

“He’s one of the most, I don’t want to say improved because he was still bought for £100m.

“But in terms of being able to adapt from one position to the other, the way he leads his team, he’s a top midfielder, really top midfielder.”

Fernandez has scored three Premier League goals this season, whilst he’s also found the back of the net in the Champions League.

Chelsea planning to offer Moises Caicedo new contract

Whilst Fernandez continues to impress, Chelsea are looking to offer Caicedo a new contract as a reward for his fine form.

Caicedo switched agents last month, and it’s now understood he will be represented by his family, with several clubs reportedly monitoring his situation.

However, Chelsea plan to open talks with Caicedo soon, and he’s seen as one of the faces of the project moving forward.
