Bournemouth have signed goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio on a season-long loan from Juventus, with an option to buy.

According to Bournemouth Echo, the deal includes a £12 million option plus £2.5 million in add-ons, with a £1.3 million loan fee if it is not triggered. Bournemouth will cover the 29-year-old’s wages.

Di Gregorio called the move the right decision, pointing to the club’s ambition and the chance to play in what he considers the most beautiful league. He is viewed as an experienced goalkeeper with excellent qualities who can strengthen the squad.

He arrives after serving as Juventus’ number one last season, making 37 appearances in all competitions, including six in the Champions League. The signing of Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham Hotspur has prompted his switch to the Cherries.

Thirty of those outings were in Serie A, with one in the Italian cup, as Juventus finished sixth and qualified for the Europa League, where they could face Bournemouth. UEFA does not permit loan agreements that block players from meeting parent clubs in Europe, unlike domestically.

An Inter youth product, he had loans at Renate, Novara, Pordenone and Monza, becoming Monza’s first-choice as they reached Serie A, before joining permanently in May 2022.

His arrival may pave the way for Will Dennis to leave this summer, likely on a permanent deal. He would provide competition to Djordje Petrovic for the number one spot, with Fraser Forster acting as number three and more of a mentor.
