Middlesbrough have revealed their new club badge for the 2026/27 season onwards.
Middlesbrough Football Club have revealed their new badge that will be in permanent use from the 2026/27 season onwards, and most Smoggies are in total agreement on how it looks.
Boro are very much in the midst of a new era in the club's history.
Rob Edwards' summer appointment has worked wonders so far, with the Teessiders sitting in the automatic promotion spots ahead of their Friday night clash with Ipswich Town, with a re-energised and enthused fanbase to boot.
However, another new era in Middlesbrough's history will be marked from the beginning of next season, one that will mark 150 years since the club's inception in 1876.
Middlesbrough supporters have known that work on a new badge for the 2026/27 season has been underway for some time now, but up until this afternoon, nobody knew when their first glimpse of the new crest would come.
However, the club revealed the new badge to supporters on Thursday, and it's certainly gone down very well with the Boro faithful.
It marks a return to the hugely popular round shape among Boro fans, which is the design that Middlesbrough implemented following the club's return from extinction in 1986.
The club's founding year, 1876, is also honoured on the crest, which features the white band which is synonymous with Middlesbrough home kits, as well as the historic lion symbol of the town.
Middlesbrough have also announced that a 150-year anniversary version of the crest will be used throughout next season, which pays tribute to and is inspired by the old Ayresome Park gates of the club's previous stadium before moving to the Riverside.
Many Middlesbrough supporters have been sharing their thoughts on the new badge in the responses to Boro's X post revealing the design, and the vast majority of them are very happy indeed.
"Not every one will be happy. But from being involved in the workshops. I think the majority of feedback has been included and this video highlights those features of Roseberry Topping, The River, Steel, White band, rampant lion and circle design. Smashed it," said one Boro fan.
"Round badge we have never been more back. Give me that in the centre of the home shirt next season and I will blow all my money on it," said another delighted Teessider.
Another Boro fan simply wrote: "Absolute beauty."
"Lovely that is fair play," summarised another.
"It's 100% better than the outgoing badge," said another happy Middlesbrough fan.
Middlesbrough's old round badge accompanied the club through some of it's lowest, and brightest days.
From marking the rebirth of the club thanks to Steve Gibson's consortium saving the club from extinction in 1986, to being founding members of the Premier League in 1992, to appearing in numerous cup finals, both domestically and in Europe.
It was there when Boro lifted the first major trophy in the club's history when winning the League Cup in 2004, and indeed, some of the greatest players in Middlesbrough's history, including Juninho, Fabrizio Ravanelli, Mark Viduka and Gaizka Mendieta all wore it on their chests.
As such, Middlesbrough will be hoping that they will be toasting 150 years of the club and their new badge with a return to Premier League football once again.
